Up North sets five reels and four rows against a cozy alpine chalet and snowy northern hills. Its 40 fixed paylines give ordinary spins a familiar structure, while Frozen Compass Wilds can change a winning line in several ways. Scatters open Aurora Free Spins, and the separate Après Ski Bonus adds a choice of drink multipliers.
Quick take: Frozen Compass Wilds can reshape a win, while drink choices bring multipliers to the Après Ski Bonus.
Theme and Gameplay
The winter setting brings together the chalet, northern wildlife and auroras. On the 5×4 grid, look for three or more matching symbols along a fixed line. A Frozen Compass is worth watching when it joins a win: its effect can expand, upgrade symbols, hold winning symbols as others respin, or apply a multiplier. The visible symbol change gives ordinary spins something to follow beyond whether a line pays.
Slot Features
The Frozen Compass Wild substitutes for symbols other than Scatters. When it is part of a win, its possible effects include a reel expansion with a 5x multiplier, upgrading low-paying symbols, locking winning symbols while the rest respin, or applying a 2x multiplier. One of these effects can also lead to the Après Ski Bonus Game. The exact effect depends on what happens on the winning spin, so it is useful to read the changed reel before judging the result.
Three to five Scatters award 10, 15 or 20 Aurora Free Spins. Compasses appear more often during these spins, with stronger effects, and Après Ski multipliers have higher values. In the Après Ski Bonus, choose three drinks for multipliers. Finding a Night Party Ticket opens a second choice round, whose multiplier is added to the earlier awards before applying to winning symbols. Bonus Buy is available as another route to the feature.
Feature focus: When a Frozen Compass joins a winning line, check what changed: the reel may expand, symbols may upgrade or lock, or a multiplier may apply.
RTP and Win Potential
The listed base-game RTP is 94%, with high volatility and a maximum win of 30,000x per round. That ceiling gives the feature combination substantial theoretical headroom, while high volatility means results can be uneven. The Bonus Buy has a lower 93.5% RTP.
My Thoughts On This Slot
The strongest idea is how much a winning Frozen Compass can change at once. Expanding a reel, upgrading symbols or holding winners for a respin each gives the next board a different shape, and the fixed paylines keep those changes readable. Aurora Free Spins extend that idea by bringing Compasses into play more often.
The several Compass effects and the drink-choice bonus add more to track than a straightforward line slot. The high-volatility profile may also mean uneven stretches between meaningful results. Up North should appeal to players who enjoy watching a winning spin develop into a changing board and making a small choice inside a bonus round.
Final Take: A win-led winter slot where Frozen Compass effects give the next spin a new shape.
