The Library
A mysterious book-filled setting gives the studio an atmospheric debut-style concept, using curiosity and hidden knowledge rather than conventional wealth symbols as the hook.
Kitsune Studios is a Manchester-based independent game developer founded in 2024. The company entered the market through Hacksaw Gaming’s OpenRGS program and quickly established a catalogue with an unusually storybook quality: mysterious libraries, Norse symbols, American football, candy escapes, pirates and tropical clubs all appear in its early releases. In 2025, Hacksaw acquired a stake in the studio, strengthening the relationship without erasing the Kitsune brand. The result is a young supplier with boutique creative freedom but access to a larger distribution ecosystem.

Norse rune imagery turns a single ancient symbol into the foundation for a darker mythological game world.
Vintage American-football styling gives Kitsune a sports-themed slot that feels completely different from its fantasy and candy releases.
A named character leads a bright confectionery adventure, giving the studio a playful counterweight to the heavier mood of Thurisaz.
Kitsune Studios was founded in Manchester in 2024 and joined the Hacksaw OpenRGS program as a route to production and distribution. Its first wave of games showed a deliberately broad creative range rather than one repeated theme. In 2025, Hacksaw Gaming acquired a stake in Kitsune, formalizing a closer relationship while the studio continued releasing under its own name. Subsequent titles such as Bonnie’s Buccaneers and Club Cabana have broadened the portfolio further, making Kitsune one of the more visible young partners within the OpenRGS ecosystem.
Kitsune’s most consistent feature is not a specific reel device but the willingness to build a recognizable world around each game. Typography, characters and environments change substantially between releases, helping the catalogue avoid the appearance of simple reskins. OpenRGS provides the technical route to market, while the studio focuses on concepts, art and gameplay. The Hacksaw investment also gives Kitsune a stronger commercial foundation than many equally young independents, without turning its games into standard Hacksaw-branded releases.
“Kitsune” is the Japanese word for fox and is strongly connected to fox spirits in Japanese folklore, giving the studio name an inherently mythic and mischievous character.
Hacksaw acquired a stake in the company in 2025, strengthening the partnership while Kitsune continued to operate and publish under its own studio identity.
It shows the studio is not locked into fantasy or folklore; a vintage American-football theme can sit alongside Norse, pirate and candy concepts.
It provides infrastructure and distribution access that would be costly for a new independent developer to build alone, allowing Kitsune to concentrate more heavily on game creation.
